Jasen Mphepo Little Theatre
The Jasen Mphepo Little Theatre (JMLT) was officially launched on the 8th of May 2019 by the Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation. It was named after the director of Patsimeredu Edutainment Trust, Mr Jasen Mphepo. It is located at number 68 Mc Chlery Avenue, Eastlea, Harare and it has a capacity holding of 200 seats. The JMLT is a place that is open to all artists for productions, events, programs and also as a venue for hire. Apart from that, one of the major reasons why it was built was for civic engagement whereby civic plays are held, followed by a post perfomance discussion which engages the audience members in debate around civic issues trying to come up with solutions. So far the civic engagement has reached out to about 945 people who have effectively engaged in the post discussions.
Several events have been done at the JMLT so far and more is expected to come. So far 2 civic productions have been by Patsime which include Inside Out and The Storm and three more are still to come by the end of the year. We also have hosted outside productions some of which include Ukama which is a NAMA award winning production, a Bulawayo production Imbokodo and the first Chinese play Ah Q by Dr Mc Claren. As the theatre is open to all artists of all genres. The theatre does not only specialise in stage performances but also a wide variety of activities including music shows, albums launches, unplugged live events, open mic events, dance workshops among others.
